i use the boat for sailing and want to keep the foredeck as clean as possible for crew movement, sheets getting caught etc. a removal solar vent durning racing that is replaced with a cap would be perfect. the old Nicro a few years age #20504s was like that. anyone know of a similar piece

I've had the Nicro vents for the past 15 years and haven't had a problem with water entering. The old ones had a plug, which I used during an offshore passage or two. During coastal sailing, however, I have encountered some higher than expected winds on a number of occasions, with a heavy spray coming over the bow while the vents were in place. We have never had any significant water ingress and no longer worry about closing off the vents.
We've replaced 2 of the solar vents that are installed in lazarette hatches. The newer models have a built-in closure that is supposed to handle any green water issues. We haven't felt the need to close them, but haven't checked carefully to see if any water has gotten through when green water swishes past the coaming.

I have just bought one and havn,t fitted it yet.
Why would you think it should be removable, are they prone to leak in heavy seas?
I have the idea of fitting it so its covered when the hatch is open but that was more for noise when relaxing on board.

solar vents for sail boat
the new Nicro vents all seem to be permenant mounts to the hatch or deck. i'm looking for a solar vent that can be removed durning sailing and replaced with just a deck ring and cover until i get back on the dock. any suggestions?
