SVEtosha Thanks Puddinlegs for the very "quick" response, most helpful indeed. What is the 39 that you sail on & where do you do your sailing?

Ilenart A couple of Farr yachts just completed the Fremantle to Bali yacht race / rally. Not sure what sort of Farr's they were, however a couple were around 38-39 feet. Details here.

Quick answers as time is short, but here you go:

Mast is keel stepped. Crew, 8-11 depending on what type of racing you're doing. The more weight on the rail upwind in a blow, the better. I haven't been on the boat in any really scary weather, steady 35 with gust to 45 is about it. Yes, it can slam upwind depending on the wave pattern. The boat drives very well and surfs easily downwind. The speedo seems to stop at around 16kts because the paddle leaves the water, so I'm sure we've gone faster. Structural stuff, Mark Lindsey built boats are regarded as being higher in quality than the Carroll marine boats, but I don't know anything about bulkhead issues.

Questions for you are what rating system are you planning to sail under? What boat is your friend currently sailing? The rig is runner dependent and will take a pretty big hit in IRC if I remember correctly. PHRF rating locally is 18. It doesn't really have a weak point of sail and will charge upwind as well as surfing downwind as mentioned above. You should also contact the guys at mauri pro sailing as they owned and campaigned one for a long while and will know more about the boat than I'll ever hope to. blt2ski puddinglegs races on an F39, not sure "WHICH" F39 model etc. but it is a quick SOB! There are two of them here in Puget Sound, a bit away from OZ.........

Feedback on the Farr 39 ML

I have an Aussie mate who is thinking of purchasing a Farr 39 ML & he was after feedback from anyone who has sailed or owned one.

How do they perform?
As he will be racing it offshore on the east coast of oz, how do they handle rough seas & swells?
Has there been any reports of bulkheads cracking?
Do they slam in rough weather?
