I am single and ready to retire. Last year I bought a new boat (50') and sailed in Chesapeake with friends. Next year I am going to sail all season May through October on the East Coast (Maine here I come), and in November I am thinking about a Rally to Tortola and spend the spring in Caribbean. However, I am not comfortable doing this all by myself so I am considering taking on a crew of at least one, to ensure safe passages and share the work. Is this the place to find people who wants to sail for extended period? Recommendations please?

I should have bought him a return ticket but had to leave asap.

I can make something hot. when boat is heel over and pitching.
My special boat curry.
big deep pot.
What ever meet is left in cooler. chop up chuck in pot.
some of each vegitable chop up chuck in pot.
Some potatoes. chop up chuck in pot.
Can of Guiness drink some pour rest in pot. other beers work so does wine and or cider.
canned tomatoes chuck in pot
cannned fruit chuch in pot.

look in spice rack open each bottle of spices in turn regardless of label chuck som in pot.

boil the heck out of it.

When hot serve

tastes great.

any complaints you can cook

I have had the exact same experience with this company. He has cost me close to 50k GBP and his unpaid crew abandoned my yacht 7000 miles from its destination. When I successfully prosecuted him, he declared insolvency to avoid refunding my money.

His website is still up, but he is writing to Court to state that he is avoiding his responsibilities to pay damages as he is insolvent and winding the company up. He stole my provisioning budget to go skiiing and kept all the fees, even though he did only a 10th of the work.

Thanks for the heads up. Can you elaborate more on their short comings?

Jones Act does not apply to a recreational boater who finds a volunteer to sail with him and when not engaged in a commercial activity. My words of advice about contracts was only intended as advice to those of us who are just doing this for fun. In addition, no contract that you might sign with crew would likely change that crew's rights, if he had any, under the Jones Act.

Actually, if the Captain is hiring the crew to do a delivery. The relationship is covered under the Jones Act.
