|SlowButSteady||I would strip the surfaces as well as I could, paint a layer if thinned epoxy over everything to get a good bond, and fill the "trays" with Bondo or some other fairing compound. Crown it slightly and leave a little "gutter" down each side (just thin indent, nothing fancy) to keep any stray moisture from pooling.|

|mitiempo||That would be a lot of epoxy. I would build the thickness with foam epoxied in and glass over with epoxy and cloth. Less expensive than all epoxy and it is not structural in any case. I wouldn't use polyester.|

|JimsCAL||I would go with epoxy as it will be much easier to get a good bond. You don't want water to get under your patch as that will cause problems. Mixing it with a light filler like what is used to fair rudders and keels would allow you to sand it afterwards and gete it nice and flat.|

I have a C&C 32 and the bilge area is not flat. There are thick fiberglass "ribs" running the bilge that end up leaving little trays about 4 inches by 6 inches across and about 1/2 inch deep. There are 3 total. I wouldn't care, except that water stays trapped in each of these spots, leading to mold, ick, and goo due to the moisture.
I am thinking of leveling each of these trays (as well as several others that lead down to the bilge for the same reason) to allow for water to all end up in one spot. By my, very rough, calculations I would lose about 1-2 cups of volume in the bilge.
Anyone have an opinion about this?
If I were to fill in the these trays, as far as materials go, should I just use epoxy or polyester resin? Or should i use some sort of leveling bondo-type stuff?
