PaulinVictoria Well there you go, made it there and back safely and had a great time into the bargain
Was interesting at times on the return journey, we appeared to be the only idiots in a 24' sailboat crashing through the waves in Satellite Channel.

PaulinVictoria Well, time flies. Leaving Friday morning, have got the boat mostly ready to go. Forecast is warm and sunny with no wind, so going to be a noisy trip there and back it seems.
Come say hi if you're there, our little tub should be fairly obvious, we'll be the one crashing into the dock, with two fear-wracked people onboard

PaulinVictoria I was planning on going there and back via Sansum, I'll work out timing based on doing 4knts, but thought we would leave pretty early on the Friday to take advantage of the last of the small flood and get through pretty much at slack. Gives us all day to get there, figure out how/where to tie up etc.
I think we'll come back down the same route on Sunday morning, aiming to get back through Sansum around mid-afternoon with the current on our side.
Might take an extra can of fuel since for a change we have somewhere to get to and so will probably end up motoring most of the way.
Looking forward to it though, going to be our next "big" adventure

Faster Paul... looks like Porlier is at max ebb at 1230 PDT Friday the 5th. It's running 3.9 - relatively benign for Porlier so it's not a large tide and Sansum would be probably half that or less... So it's not a big ebb and you'll likely have little trouble over either route. Turns to a favourable flood at 1530.

Coming home Sunday you'll have a equally mild but favourable ebb between 1230 and 1800... nice travelling times.. Monday about the same an hour later.

If you go up/down the Portland/Saltspring eastern side keep an eye out for a rock field on the east shore of Portland.. if you've got current setting you it's important to keep track of just where you are in relation to those.

Overall the tides changes are very small in the daylight hours that whole weekend.

CHS - PDF Files

Look at "Fulford Harbour" for tides - don't forget to add the hour for daylight time.

Enjoy the adventure!

True.

Enjoy the rendezvous.

PaulinVictoria Yeah, it doesn't look too bad, but 3 knots against, when I max out at 5.5 under power, is still pretty significant

jackdale There is really nothing serious to worry about on the way to Thetis. Samson Narrows never runs more than 3 knots.

If you have any questions, fire away, either publicly or via PM.

PaulinVictoria Thanks. I'd better start planning it, tides, currents etc are always interesting in these parts.

Faster Good for you both, Paul... have a great trip.

PaulinVictoria Alrighty, marina booked, forms filled in, looks like we're going
