North Sea Harbor

Thanks Hugo:

My wife's family has a condo over there. We often anchor or moor at Sag Harbor and they pick us up.

I am trying to get the courage to anchor there, but it looks so thin.

A few years ago I was fishing at Towd's point and watched a 30 footer ground at the inlet. The water was warm, so I was able walk in close to him and grab an anchor to help kedge him off.

I will certainly take you up on your offer for your brother's assistance - will send you a PM with my info.

Many thanks, Mike

HUGOSALT Hi Mike, Have been in and out of North Sea Harbor for many years as my brother owns the house that is on the
peninsula at the south end of harbor. I draw 4'2" ( have not been out for last few years on my boat).
You should have enough water in the channel especially
at hi tide (which is less than 2 feet). Stay in channel
sailboats usually are moored/anchored at edge of channel.
Half the time I go soft aground on soft mud bottom because I don't keep track of tide or the channel for that matter! Important...line up outer buoys from the north
don't cut as it shoals outside the aproach channel.
I will check with my brother if they have dredged recently
and let me know when you are going...if he is around he
will surely be happy to be your pilot (even though he may be sitting on his porch on the vhf or cell phone!)
Best, Hugo

North Sea Harbor

Anyone familiar with North Sea Harbor? Can I get in there with a 4.5' draft?
Charts don't look like I can. However, many folks have told me that it is not a problem.

I have seen some fairly large sailing vessels entering and exiting the inlet, but don't know their draft.

A few years ago the Manager at Conscience Point Marina told me that I should be ok. -- Ideally, I would like to anchor in the harbor for a few days. There are a few 26ish to 30ish sailboats moored in the harbor, but again the draft is unknown.

Thanks,

Mike
