PaulfromNWOnt Sounds similar to a Sunfish. Try a google search for sunfish rigging as there are some excellent drawings and diagrams.

Missing Something?

Hello everyone, this is my first time posting in this forum and I hope I will get to know a few of you here. I love sailing even though I am a newbie(hate that word) and have very limited experience, I KNOW I love it. I have sailed a number of times in the past with friends and just this past week I purchased a small 10 ft. fiberglass sailing dinghy with wooden centreboard and rudder. The person who sold me this boat was not the owner and couldn't tell me exactly how to attach the sail to the mast and I thought I would be ok to figure it out myself but was sadly mistaken.

The boat has a metal mast roughly 8 ft. tall that sits in a step well forward on the boat. This mast has a block attached at the top and a small side cleat at the bottom. The one sail is triangular in shape and connected on only two sides, poles are about as thick as my thumb. On one pole is two blocks holding a length of thin rope about 6 ft. long, the blocks are situated closer to end that is NOT connected to the other pole. The second pole just has a length of thicker rope 10 ft. long connected to the end in a large grommet.

I wonder if I'm missing a piece of hardware or something because as it is this sail can't be attached properly and I need some insight. Please respond.
