|Oysterbob||Thanks Puddinlegs, good idea, ive just e-mailed Oyster, have been trying to get in touch with other owners who race the boat, only 47 produced. Im not going to make decision till end of the season anyway, im just interested to hear from people who may have a similiar cruiser racer, fin keel frac rigg boat & have looked at this issue|

thanks Faster, thats a good idea, we where speaking about inhaulers earlier today, just trying to get as much info gathered as possible before thinking about ordering new sails, where we put these tracks will determine the shape of sail etc.
We are trying to get hold of a used #3 to do some testing with what you have suggested.
In the meantime its good to get opinions, i found another post on sheeting angles and to quote 'You can't place the jib tracks of a Columbia 26 or Catalina 27 at 7 degrees and get a good result. The keels of those boats will stall and the full bows would need more power to push through any swell.' Kind of wondering if thats similiar to our boat, but a practical test with inhaulers will obviously be the best thing here.

Try experimenting with some temporary in-haulers to see if you'll truly benefit from improved sheeting angles. This is just some athwartships tackle that allow you to pull the clew inboard from the existing track position.
Be wary of the apparent increase in pointing ability.. the underbody of the boat may not support those new angles and result in increased leeway - ultimately reducing your VMG to windward.
These trials will also help you determine how far inboard your new tracks should/shouldn't be.

jib sheeting angle choices..
Looking to get some ideas on sheeting angles for a new jib :-)
a bit of background about our boat - we have a 1979 grp sloop 26ft (8m), fin keel , is a cruiser racer and weighs over 3 metric tonne on the lift out crane, 7/8 fractional rig. Have always used a furling headsail of approx 150% to cruise and race but we are going to go for dedicated race sails & keep current ones for crusing, we have a removable furlex furler drum & dual foil for sail changes so we plan on having two headsails, one will approx 150% & the other headsail between 95-115% we havent decided.
The current jib/genoa tracks are quite far out from the centreline and we are looking at putting new inside tracks or at least a block a bit closer to the centreline for sheeting in the working jib/blade/#3 , the sailmaker had a look & thought the coachroof would be suitable for new inside tracks, but there is also a stainless steel ring by the base of the shrouds that could be used or we could fit a track inside the shrouds. On measuring all out and checking angles the coachroof would give a jib sheeting angle approx 7-8 degrees and the inside of the shrouds would give approx 13-14 degrees, i have read somewhere previously that this sheeting angle depends on type of boat, displacement etc and varies from 5-20 degrees depending on type, but im sure there was some 'rules of thumb' just cant remember where i read! anyway i prefer personal opinions :-)
