Re: Sailing in Croatia - ready to give informations

Hello Dorian7,

I think you have to post at least 10 times to be able to send and receive personal messages, but Im not sure about that, maybe I mix it up with another forum. Anyway, I send a test message in a Minute, please post here once you have received it.

Some more informations:
Best place for chartering is Marina Kastela near Split, because its only 10 minutes from the Airport. Any other charter base (except Trogir) will cost you some money to get there by taxi. Even Dubrovnik Airport means 40min driving to the marina.

In two weeks sailing from Split-Kastela you can visit most of the beautiful places in South Dalmatia like Hvar, Korcula, Vis and Dubrovnik.

Best time for booking is now until beginning of march.

Best time to sail is May, June, first half of July and then September. Summer, as mentioned before, is crowded - but if you like hot Party Nights (Hvar!) this might even be the right period for you.

What kind of boat would you prefer? Racer or cruiser?
How many crewmembers will be on board?

Looking forward to your reply -
gtx chris

Re: Sailing in Croatia - ready to give informations

Hello Dorian7,

Ive been around the Med and the Caribean but Croatia is still my favourite area. There are more than 1.300 Islands, fantastic cuisine, small medieval cities to visit and the water is clear. Of couse, they raised their prices during the last years, but I think you wont regret your decision to go sailing there.
Just have a look at this:

I can supply you with any useful Information, but Id Need some questions before: what is your intention, do you need a boat or a skipper, how long do you want to sail, how much money are you ready to invest, some words about your possible crew....

looking forward to your answer

Re: Sailing in Croatia - ready to give informations

I am glad to see that my thread came back to life...
And thank you for confirming my high-season-warning for Croatia. Montenegro is an alternative but similar destination, this is correct - and all sailors in this area should be glad about the relatively new sailing area.
Nevertheless, my best choice around the Adriatic, is still Croatia in spring: May and June, from Zadar down to Dubrovnik, this is paradise.

Re: Sailing in Croatia - ready to give informations

I would say you are right about Croatia specially on the Islands near Split (central Croatia). Much less crowded on the North Croatia, along the coast and in the South.

Regarding Greece it is a lot less crowded, you don't have to pay for buoys (you can anchor everywhere) along the coast is not crowded and even on the Islands you generally can find always a place. I have been several times the only boat in an anchorage, even on Islands, In August. You just have not to follow the crowd.

In between you have Montenegro, you can anchor everywhere without paying, it is less crowded than Greece, I would say not many boats considering August, and live is cheap. Excellent food and wine

Re: Sailing in Croatia - ready to give informations

I want to return for advice about cruisiing in the Adriatic, but right now I want to second Christian's observation about sailing in the Med and environs in August: the marinas are full, the restaurants are full, the anchorages are full. It's a good time to go to Paris, whch nice and quiet!

Dear Users,

I would like to point to an interesting website about sailing in Croatia: Adriatic Croatia International Club | ACI Marinas gives you a good overview about the aerea including basic nautical informations, port facilities, local weather conditions and so on - all in English.

Additionally, I may disadvise you to go there from now until 15th of August. Due to summer holiday in Italy (Feragosta) there are thousands of motor boats crowding all ports and sailing there in this period is not a pleasure. If you think about a charter trip in Croatia you should choose any week after 15th of August until the end of September. In spring you will find perfect conditions during May and June.

Sailing in Croatia - ready to give informations

Dear users,

I have registered only a short time ago. Soon I found out, that there is not very much information available about the Croatian coast, which was my favoured cruising area for the last 20 years. So if you have questions about Sailing in Croatia dont hesitate to aks right here, maybe I can answer
