calmsky I went to Hawaii yacht club and that boat already found a crew. How do I found out if any commercial ships going from Oahu to New Zealand or Australia? Is it USA coast guard, USA Customs, department of transportation or some body else?

Boat in Honolulu looking for crew to OZ

Check at the Hawaii Yacht Club. A boat came in a few days ago at the fuel dock and the skipper is looking for crew to OZ. The crew from the mainland US can't continue. The boat is Canadian flagged and moored at the Aloha dock at HYC.

calmsky Does tramp trade ships stay in Marinas? I am assuming security in large commercial dock won't let me in to talk to ship masters.

That would be an Ordinary Seaman or the next step up, the Able Bodied Seaman.

Unless you get very lucky, I don't think you are likely to find someone small going your way. The better bet would be larger ships. Look for a ship that engages in the tramp trade and is going in the right direction. Speak with the ship's Master and ask how you might pay your way or otherwise earn your keep.

This could be a wild goose chase. Good luck.

calmsky I don't have any experience on ships. I don't know what O.S. or an A.B is. I don't know how to swim, seriously. I will buy a PFD and wetsuit if I can find a boat. I am more worry about hypothermia than drowning.

dacap06 Calm Sky,

Do you have quals? For instance, are you an O.S. or an A.B?

Hawaii to New Zealand or Australia

I am in Honolulu, Hawaii. I want to hitch on a boat to New Zealand or Australia. Does anybody know which Marina in Oahu has most international ships?
