When I aquired my Starwind 22, the boat had no rudder and the bottom gudgeon fitting was sheared off - only the two opposing ends of the strap still screwed to the transom. How do I determine the correct length and width of this transom mounted tiller rudder? The specs and drawings available online aren't very specific. I do know it was originally outfitted with a kick-up rudder bracket because the boat is trailerable. I have it moored in a slip currently.
GRETIGS EARTHLINGS, There will be witness marks where the old one used to be use thease to a-line the new fitting. If not line up the keel and the rudder in the same plane you can use a spirit level and string to giv the lines you need mesure twice and then mesure to check you marked it right , see if you cantake any mesurments of a similar vessel in your area or on the net GO SAFE.
They make and sell rudders, centerboards, and swing keels for a great many production boats including Starwind. Not sure how willing they'd be to share data as much as they'd like to sell you the rudder...
Hopefully you found all the info that you needed by now. If not, my starwind 22 is on the trailer my yard. I'd be happy to take a few measurements this weekend. Let me know what specifics you need.
