|leogallant||When we moved my son's boat from HHI to Charleston, it was the mega powerboats that seemed the least considerate with wake and how close they would come. Had no problem with fishermen, just had to watch for their crab pots :-) Always a bad apple somewhere, although I've yet to meet one in the sailing community while on the water :-)|

I'd like to think that laws and regulations regarding this matter could be enforced. However, law enforcement is understaffed on the waterways and certainly has bigger fish to fry than wake-makers.
My purpose for this thread was to bring a small problem to the attention of the larger boating community at large. Sometimes, social pressure can do more good than the threat of fines or loss of privileges. If we ask marinas where we keep our boats to post notices (in the place where they will be read - above the urinals) regarding the possible consequences - and make it personal.
For instance: "What if it were YOUR mother who fell and broke her hip because of someone thoughtless enough to generate a wake next to an anchored boat?" Or get a little civic pride involved - "Do you want people to think that everyone from (Insert your state, town, county, locale) has no manners?"
Maybe a little social pressure will help at least a few individuals to be more mannerly.

|sawingknots||the s.c dnr is woefully understaffed [pretty much like everywhere] the fact is anyone can do pretty much what they want also theres no way to catch up to a power boat except maybe a load of birdshot,i don't see this issue improving|
