peikenberry Thanks. I finally figure that out. The engineer's creed "If all else fails read the manual".

  • Put the charts wherever you want. Copy the path to the directory in the header bar.
  • Run MapCal
  • Select Tools-Set Directories and paste the path there
  • Now go to Tools-Autoload List-Recreate

From now on, Seaclear will automatically find all of your charts.

This is pretty clearly documented on the SeaClear website. You should check the doc files to make full use of the program.

peikenberry Well Thanks to this thread http://www.sailnet.com/forums/gear-m...-software.html I figured out how to do that.

peikenberry I simply went to the NOAA site and downloaded charts for free. Nautical Charts & Pubs

They have to be unzipped but that's not a real problem. If you have a problem download a free copy of WINZIP.

My problem was getting the software to find the files. I had to move them to the Charts folder that Seaclear creates. I need to find a way to make it look elsewhere for the charts because I want to keep them on a USB memory stick.

But I tried OpenCPN first and it was just to difficult to use.

SeaClear maps

you can go to the hateful map what ever site and muddle through the hateful zip session.

or you can find them on ebay. usually for $10

Skip

also there is a tidal current software package that uses the same bsb maps.

also i trust this software way beyond garmin or magellen maps. NOAA maps are legal.

Sail, it was the VALHALLA site where I read the recommendation for SeaClear. I''m not familiar with NEMA charts and no, I didn''t need to use anything other than SeaClear to open up and see/work with a Raster-type chart.

You told me Rasta charts and I was trying to make it run NEMA charts and did not have much luck.Did you copy the stitch software that goes with it the zip I have but I dont know how it works yet.

S:

I too downloaded SeaClear recently as I was curious how it worked. I think you''ll find any BSB or other raster-type chart to work with it. Or at least that was my experience (with NOS charts) and this is also what the developer promises.

However, I couldn''t get the damn thing to load more than one single chart (file) at a time. I had a CD of Med charts for Spain & Portugal and could get the program to see the list of files ont the CD...but no way to select more than a single file. Very frustrating. Plase let me know if you find the ''trick''!

BTW an email to the developer produced no reply (so far). Free software is of course a small price, and perhaps also represents the level of support one should expect.
