I have a 1983 C&C 40 with a westerbeke 33. Did you find out the Mitsubishi engine the Westerbeke 33 was marinized from? Member Main Sail posted he thought it was the K4D. I found a tractor dealer that sells parts online. Hope I am not a bother but the way my engine sits its almost impossible to find without tearing the cockpit floor up. Thank You in advance.

How did you get the Mistu parts book? I am having a hard time obtaining one. I have the engine model Number L3E 0.952l displacement, and a six digit serial number followed by 4 digits and the "8K", but I have tried several distributors and they claim that the serial number is not corect - a no go as I have to refraim from providing "other information". Did you contact Mistsubishi directly?

Thanks!

Fianally had a chance to go to the boat and check the engine numbers.
I was able to find them and take pictures and now I validated Funjohnsos's find (model L3E) and got my serial number. The serial number is a must to obtain the parts manual - that is my next step.

I'll keep you posted.

funjohnson Ohh... and SVTatia, here is the oil pan you need (part number vetus STM3907) It's $184 dollars US.

funjohnson I tired to take a photo too, but the output of hose for the raw water pump was in the way. The Vetus M3.09 is the same block too. While I havent found any online parts options, I'm sure there has to be something out there.

By the way, the operation manual for the Vetus is much better than the Westerbeke... it has pictures!

Way to go Funjohnson! and thank you too MaineSail (again)!!

I had a feeling that the L3E looked too much like my engine.

I am going to the boat tomorrow, and just for the record I will snap a pic if I can squeeze into the right place. Now the challenge is to find a Mitsu part source without mentioning Westerbeke as MaineSail hinted. I will search and keep you posted.

funjohnson Just got back from the boat... it is the L3E block.

I've googled, looked all over the block, and searched the Mitsubishi website and cannot find a standard tractor engine for the 30bthree (what I have too). If you find one, please let me know.
The closest I found and it matches on looks and numbers is the L3E. And I believe this engine is also used on a Vetus engine.

I will confirm once I find the number on the block.

Here's some pics... Look hard they don't make them easy to find...
