S/V Arabesque On the hard for a major extreme refit, but I am going to do a quick sample on the oil presure at the fill port,should be 1lb. or less, to answer the blow by and thus ring positon that has been advised.

jrd22 If it starts fine and there is no smoke I would change the oil again and then run it for the normal change interval and have it analyzed again. Starting well and not smoking indicate an engine with good compression. How is the oil pressure?

chuck53 I'm sure you know, but when it comes to long engine life, Lehman's are about as good as you can get. Near bulletproof.

S/V Arabesque Yes the analysis points out some “probable” components which would equal a major overhaul. I am possibly in denial and thus arguing with myself that rust had developed over months and quite possibly years in the cylinders etc., was flushed to the oil when the motor ran recently, which could by why the iron is so out of range. Starts fine, no smoke out of exhaust port.

jrd22 Looks good to me, not an expert but no water or coolant is a good thing and the only metal that is at all high is iron and I'm not sure that that is even abnormally high. The company that does the analysis usually calls out any potential problems.

Background, engine was not run for quite a while until, maybe a year or more, until the sea trial. No idea how long oil has been in service since last change.
