Re: So tough to choose. Help me please....

I'm told by experts this shouldn't matter. However, when things need to talk to each other, I prefer to have the same brand across the board. This way, no finger pointing when troubleshooting a problem.

Its between Raymarine & Simrad for me (4g radar is unbelievable).

Ray's got better plotters though.

Is Raymarine off the list? I know some have had issues, but pretty good bang for the buck, esp the tridata set (wind, speed, depth) is a pretty good deal.

Friends have B&G in the tropics and have had some issues, notably the display screen lighting failed, necessitating a new display unit - ex warranty (time wise)...

So tough to choose. Help me please....

Please help me decide on an electronic package for my bristol 35.5. I am relatively new to sailing and the old corinthian gear is going caput. Mast assembly is falling off and I would like to upgrade the entire system. Every salesman I talk to has opinions on best gear. In talking to install guys they list problems with reliability and company support with mergers and takeovers. My plan is to install a sail package, rudder indicator, radio and a helm GPS/plotter this year. Future plans include radar, xm weather and a new auto pilot in 1-3 years. So far I am leaning towards:
B & G Triton or Simrad IS 20 sail package
Simrad IS 20 rudder indicator
Lowrance HDS gen2 7 or 8 at the helm
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Sailing the Chesapeake bay.
