Re: Islander 28 single handed around Cape Horn?

My first keelboat was an Islander 28...Island Majic. I have fond memories of her ans she was one of the best boats to learn on and forgiving. Seemed well made for the time (1976) and had a beautiful interior.

She was an average sailing vessel in terms of performance never in front never in the rear, ( I am comparing now to my 35C&C MKIII) and was good in heavier winds for a boat her size. Narrow upswept transome. I would not be suprtised if she were still around/ Good luck with yours..

Of course, without an engine, Panama C. is out.

Love it. I'm getting my Islander 28 into shape to head south come the new year. Happy to hear others are taking this boat on some epic voyages.

Re: Islander 28 single handed around Cape Horn?

I know a guy on a Bristol 27 who is sailing around the world (or at least heading in that direction) singlehanded, without an engine. Didn't do Cape Horn though. Last saw him in Suwarrow. Also met four French kids (to me, anyone under 30 is a kid) in Mangareva who had come down the Atlantic and gone to Antartica in a pretty ordinary-looking boat. I guess somewhere in there they went around Cape Horn.

Islander 28 single handed around Cape Horn?

I learned from an unimpeachable source that an Islander 28 had, "sailed into Savusavu---he SELDOM uses his engine----and he arrived in Fiji by way of Cape Horn last season. Know that you have a fine boat." Does anyone know who the chap sailing around the world solo in an I-28 is?
