And here is an equally cool animation of ocean currents (not real-time).

Re: Real-Time U.S. Wind Map

I downloaded the windfinder app to my iPhone. Windfinder is a collection of personal weather stations. Someone put up a weather station at the lake where I sail. It provides very dependable current and forecasted winds.

The US map was blank with my normal IE Version 8. I had to switch to Chrome to get it to work.

Re: Real-Time U.S. Wind Map

Guys, there's a link titled "Let Us Know" toward the bottom of the page.
"We'd be interested in displaying data for other areas; if you know of a source of detailed live wind data for other regions, or the entire globe, please let us know."
I just dropped them an email requesting they incorporate coastal onshore NOAA real time wind data and data from buoys.

If enough of us show an interest we may get our wish

Re: Real-Time U.S. Wind Map

Another one of those totally cool internet sites. As I watch what must be a very nice low right around Denver, the image is as much art as science. But what else is new. The science of Hubble is magnificent art. Thanks for the link.

That is so cool! I'm going to have to save that link to my favorites. Thanks!

Re: Real-Time U.S. Wind Map

It is cool, not sure it is useful from an actual sailing standpoint, I prefer this source personally - WA - puget sound Wind Data

I've seen a few others, like "weatherunderground" that for me locally, seem to pull from the same weather stations. Some say it is more accurate than sailflow....

Re: Real-Time U.S. Wind Map

That is awesome (and graphically representing why I am not sailing today in AR)!

Re: Real-Time U.S. Wind Map

Ain't it? I keep looking at that wind shear north of Memphis, referring to normal weather maps and can't for the life of me figure out what is causing it...
