We looked at a number of boats before purchasing our 43. 43 is a misnomer as ours is 47' from bowsprit to stern rail, and 52' with anchors and davits. The 43 is Significantly bigger than even the 42CC. Our ketch has been up to a comfortable (still upright) 7.2 knots (ground speed) in a 20-25 KN blow, albeit faster but not as comfortable at greater than 30KN wind. The issue is massive (4 fisted) weatherhelm. We overcame this issue by replacing the minimal
Edson mechanical system for hydraulic. The boats are massive inside with decent lighting and lots of stowage so there's lots of room for adding toys and gear. Not the first boat back to the club, but the driest and the least tired crew. We love ours and while not a heavy cruiser; a hefty cruiser (ours grosses out at 46200 lbs) with all the room and amenities a home at sea should offer.

Re: E43 trepidation
Very nice boats, I have been on 4 different 43' and the quality seems as good as on my 32. All 4 of the owners say they are great boats and sail well. I'm sure their not the fastest boats out there but are comfortable.

We are thinking of getting back into sailing and like the layout of the 43. But not sure or the quality nor sailing ability. Admiral says I over analyze and over research to go with what I like. But way too many years of being cautious to change I guess. Any input on the 43 would be appreciated.
