I'll direct all future posts regarding Labor Day weekend to that other thread.

As for Aug. 26-28, that is a trip I would LOVE to do, but work commitments for both Lori and me will prevent us from doing it. I'm assuming that you are planning and a daysail into the Bay on Monday, returning through the canal all the way to Reedy Point?

We might be up to a car trip down to Chesapeake City this Sunday if you're interested in meeting for dinner.

Re: Delaware River May 5

Unfortunately Lori's non-union college does not observe Labor Day, so she cannot sail on Monday because she has to teach. That's why we were thinking of returning on Sunday.

We could plant a car at a destination for her to drive back while I singlehand with you guys for another couple of days. I'm not sure I can afford that much time away, so I'll have to think about it. But it's good to hear that there are some possibilities for meet-ups down in that area.

I'm OK with going to the Bohemia or Sassafras on Sunday rather than Cohansey.

OK for afternoon sail on Saturday September 1st to Delaware City, I may go down to Cohansey on Sunday then return to Delaware City on Monday and Essington on Tuesday.

Any interest in a Leonid Meteor Shower sail to Cohansey Cove on November 17. Tides are best for pre-dawn departures to get to destinations before 4:45PM sunsets, the tides are perfect for arrivals well after sunset which is OK for the Pea Patch back channel with many lighted atons but not Cohansey with only one green lighted pylon.

We will be coming back from our trip to Martha's Vineyard/ LI Sound on that day, Sunday is our trip up the Delaware and we usually make the Sassafras, but wiling to stop further north like Bohemia or Northeast Yacht Club. I won't do Chesapeake City, especially on a holiday weekend. If you guys don't mind doing the canal we would enjoy seeing you. We need to make it through the canal though as we have 7-8 hours to MYC from Bohemia and three weeks worth of stuff to remove from th boat when we get there.

It may not be doable or convenient for you guys so we understand. Delaware City would not fit for us. Currently we are headed out the LI Sound for two days in Greenport, Long Island, then a day on Block Island, the two in Oak Bluffs Marthas Vineyard if the weather and money hold out.

Re: Delaware River May 5

Would anybody be interested in a repeat mini-cruise over Labor Day Weekend? Depart Philly area Sat. Sept. 1 @ 2pm, dinner in Delaware City, then depart for the return trip Sun. Sept 2 @ 8 am?

This is just a suggestion - I'm not 100% sure we're available yet (daughter heading back to college). But I'll start a new thread if there's some interest.

Rhythm
You honked and pointed to the oil barge in the Delaware City refinery channel behind me. Turned to starboard (oil dock on my port side) to place my canoe stern into the wake and placed my course behind Pea patch, last red buoy to second cable tower off the DE side. I was spending to much time working on paper charts to see the barge.

Left Delaware City wearing a long sleeve tee shirt, but 30 mins later at the red buoy had my foul weather gear on for warmth all the way to Essington. Tee shirt weather at Essington.

Passed under the over head power lines by the time your faster boat was at the up river end of Pea Patch Dike.

I was doing a mix of sail and motor sail from Cherry Island Flats to get to Essington before the tide change.

Re: Delaware River May 5

The Admiral and I got our signals a little crossed when packing up for our cruise. I talked her into wearing shorts instead of jeans because temps were about 70 and we would be sailing downwind. She thought I was telling her not to bring jeans at all. So on our return trip, when it was in the 50s and we were close hauled into a steady breeze, she was just a tad chilly. As a result, this is how she spent most of the trip back (aside from periodically coming on deck to help come about):

I think I posted here awhile back about my project to chop my way-oversized cabin table into three parts with drop leaves. You can see here that it really provides a lot more maneuvering space in the cabin.
