Re: Racor fuel filter identification....

Mike :

As part of the maintenance, I will open it up. I run a pressurised fuel system, so I have not been changing the fuel filter as often as I should. It's time I got after it.

Re: Racor fuel filter identification....

Rockter, I have the same filter and the same problem with trying to identify the correct element. There is no water showing in mine, so I think it is okay, but would like to have a replacement just in case. If you do find out the element #, can you let me know? thanks.

Re: Racor fuel filter identification....

Folks.
Thanks.
I guess I will have to take it apart to see what the filter element is, measure it, take a picture of it then try to source a new one.
The unit is difficult to maintain a seal. It has always leaked very slightly anyway.

Re: Racor fuel filter identification....

Rockter,
That sounds just like the fuel water separating filter we still have on our boat. It is a PITA to seal it properly after replacing the filter element so we are replacing it with an all metal new Racor unit (~$100). We have a gas engine (A4) so the plastic filter is kind of a no-no when installed in the engine compartment.

I'm not positive that this filter is the right one but it sure looks like it: Racor Filter 2020PM-OR Filter Element
IIRC, these filters were not particularly expensive (around $15 a piece) compared to the new unit which has the filter enclosed in a metal canister.

The last time I bought filter elements for this unit I got a few extra. I know I have at least 1 unused filter element I could send you if you are not in a big hurry. I could send it/them off within a week. You pay postage.
PM me if interested.

Re: Racor fuel filter identification....

Nuts. I recently found a description of all the Racor turbine filters and how to tell them apart, and now I can't find the reference.

Could you pop out the filter element to see if there is a number on it? Might only require removing the cap.

Racor fuel filter identification....

Sorry, I have no picture for this one, but maybe someone will recognise it.

My ship has a Volvo MD17C as the auxiliary.

The fuel filter is a Racor, with a curved, clear bowl and aluminium body above it. It dates from 1977 or before, I think. It is an early model fuel filter but I don't know which one. It does not have the wee T-piece thumbscrew sticking up out of the top of it. Instead, it has a stainless band strapped around the top of it with a big black tightening knob on it.

I was trying to identify it so that I could get some new filter elements for it.

Does anyone recognise the description?

Thanks.

Rockter.
