Re: hang on to your shore power adapters!

Sorry, not the compressed gas bottles, the ones for liquid fuel for backpacking stoves like the MSR dragonfly.

Some parent got their knickers in knots because the fuel bottles looked like the Sigg water bottles and kids could drink the wrong ones. There was an irony to the whole thing since Sigg made fuel bottles for decades first before marketing them for water. They were a big part of instigating the BPA panic, which dethroned Nalgene as the water bottle king, and many metal water bottle manufacturers actually later quietly removed the BPA free tag from their products when they discovered the liners actually DID contain BPA but that's another story. Once they hit mainstream with water bottles that looked like stove fuel bottles it was only a matter of time.
To compound the issue some advertising genius started marketing them as FUEL bottles for people, I have one, a lime green bottle with FUEL in capital letters on the side, not pressure safe, for drinking only.
A campaign got started, all fuel bottles were pulled(including with new stoves). For over a year you couldn't buy a fuel bottle, which meant you could buy a 150$ camping stove with no way to use it.
For that year there was a lot of loaned fuel bottles, even the ones with slight leaks were patched up with epoxy etc Prices for them climbed on craigslist(technically illegal to sell since they had been recalled) and even under the counter sales from smaller gear stores if you knew the manager, or sometimes a staff might "forget" one near you and go find something else to do. You'd then "forget" a 20$ on the counter.

Re: hang on to your shore power adapters!

They have been pulled due to a lack of CSA certification apparently. It will be sorted out soon I was told.

Even cheaper hit up the local electrical distrubuters, I've got about 5 different setups. all for under a hundred bucks, sure they don't look like expensive boat addapters but they work.

Damn! Just like the camping stove fuel bottles. And I need a new one in the next 30 days according to my survey. How do you make one from Princess Auto parts.

hang on to your shore power adapters!

If you are Canadian, hang on to your shore power adapters! A guy, who works at ``the Store`` in Port Credit, told me last night that they were no longer able to sell them due to certification issues. I have 2 under my slip in 20 ft of water if anyone is interested in getting them!
