THANKS so much for all the feedback. I decided to roll with the concept. Here are some images of the final install. (The small screw knobs tighten down on the tank to keep it from rotating or rising up.)

Re: Is this SAFE? - Propane tank

there are many cruisers here in mexico who managed to sail here from many places including east coast who have their tanks mounted as do you. i dont see any problem with it. smooth sailing.

Per; Propane Facts | Propane Education & Research Council

Quote:
Propane has a narrow range of flammability when compared with other petroleum products. In order to ignite, the propane-air mix must contain from 2.2 to 9.6 percent propane vapor. If the mixture contains less than 2.2 percent gas, it is too lean to burn. If it contains more than 9.6 percent, it is too rich to burn.

Re: Is this SAFE? - Propane tank

If you stand it upright, rather that at the angle of the combing, the propane would be less likely to roll off the bottle and into the cockpit.

Afterburner!

Kind of like reactive explosive armour if someone hits you.

Re: Is this SAFE? - Propane tank

In one of the past issues of Good Old Boat a tank locker was made out of a venier that had fiberglass sandwiched between the layers. It was mounted on the stern attachd to an outboard motor bracket & looked pretty nice.

With your installation, I don't think you need to worry about the tank relief blowing off & filling your boat w/ gas, you're open to the atmosphere. This is in all likelyhood a safer approach when compared to an intergral propane locker.

I'm planning on doing the the same thing because I like trailer parks
