Re: Any tips to get started looking?

Watch the progress of boats on ebay. Pay attention to the number of bids and the locations as well as the price and you can get a pretty good idea of desireability and what regions are pricey. I've seen some pretty good deals happen there when owners just don't want to be bothered with the boat anymore.

While you're checking out marinas and pricing mention to EVERYONE you meet that you're looking for a sailboat. You might be surprised what you turn up through the grapevine.

Actually, the first thing to do is determine what kind of boat you're looking for, based on how you realistically will use it. You might also want to investigate slip prices and other associated costs in your area as well.

Once you know what you want (day sailer to world cruiser), then you can decide on which one.

You can search by region or size. I don't think you can search by price but I am sure you can find a few around you.

Edit: sorry just saw you checked it already!

Re: Any tips to get started looking?

I've seen lots of boats on Sailboats for sale from Sailing Texas, the nationwide and international sailing site, buy or sell your sailboat. the boats are all over the US, not just TX. They also have all of their listings archived. If you want pics of a boat you've never heard of, that's a good source.

If there is a local sailing mag in your area that can be a good source (we have 48 North here in the PNW). A lot of marinas have a bulletin board with boats for sale too.

Yeah I've been all over yacht world for a while now but have heard that it may not be indicative of the market. There's a couple on sailboatlistings and craigslist I'm gonna check out too.

Re: Any tips to get started looking?

Look on . . . it'll give you lots of ideas of boats in your price and size range, along with marinas in your area. Even if you don't look at or buy one of them, it's a great starting point -- at least when we were looking, it had probably the largest selection.

You can also see what types of boats various brokers tend to list, so it can be a good resource before contacting a broker, too.

Have fun in the selecting!

Any tips to get started looking?

So I made the move south, have a place in SW Fla thru Sept, got settled in, now ready to start boat hunting. Any tips on how to get started? Any good marinas to check out?
