Owned one for years. Going to move it to the boat and use it on the BBQ.

Google "Wonder Pot" oven from the Middle East. Same design as Omnia for 15% of the cost (I bought one in Jordan last year for $7.50). Works Great!

They turn up on eBay once in a while.

Agri Have you checked out the Outback Oven? Similar to a dutch oven except its a lot more light weight and has a thermometer of sorts. Its what I use on my boat.

Thanks for the tip about the stove top oven. I ordered one and I can't wait to try it. My boat has an oven, but I think it will be handy to use the grill to keep the cabin cooler.

Your post led me to your blog which is nice and full of info. I want to return the favor (flavor) by pointing you to the Aerobie Aeropress coffee and espresso maker. It rocks. Makes espresso just as well (perhaps better) as our home model, but on the boat it really earns its place because unlike any other method, a water less wipe with a towel cleans it right up for the next round.

aeventyr60 I finally made beer bread in a pressure cooker, but had to travel deep into the Himalaya to do it. Good coarse ground flour, some millet, corn made for a very tasty, crusty loaf.

CarolynShearlock Yep, it does work with the grill -- pretty darn well, too. Just tried that the other day and haven't written it up yet.

Because of the way the heat is funneled up through the center, I think it doesn't have to be totally calm but need to do more testing on that (it was pretty light wind when we used it on the grill). I think it will work better on a charcoal grill or a gas grill that has one central burner instead of one of those long horizontal burners.

Minnewaska I've also heard good reviews. While I haven't tried it, I understand that it will also work on your bbq to keep you from heating up the cabin. I suspect that only works well in calm winds.

There is nothing like the smell of something baking on a sailboat.

A Better Way to Bake on the Stove Top

There have been several threads about baking bread (and other things) in a Dutch oven or pressure cooker. I wrote about my technique with a Dutch oven, even. About a month ago, one of my blog readers told me about an even better way and I wanted to share it.

It's called the Omnia Stove Top Oven. It's a special three part "pan" with a steel plate underneath, then the pan and a lid. I bought one 4 weeks ago and have been using it ever since, and the results are fantastic and easy.

I was going to post a picture of it and the bread I made, but I keep getting an error message. So here's the blog post I wrote, with pictures of the Omnia and my bread and some other goodies:

Highly recommended if you don't have an oven!
