"Such boats would have L. Francis Herreshoff rolling in his grave and, frankly, they do nothing for me either."
Well said, Ted. You draw a rather sweet sheer line yourself, I admire it every time I walk down the dock to our boat.

That article is funny, unexpected and very interesting. Bob has a great sense of humor and a big honesty. He is a great designer and a great human being.

The truth is that a design of a sailboat has a lot to do with aesthetics and not only with functional aspects. Look for instance at modern classic boats. They sail well and look terrific but there are a lot of design aspects that serve no function except an aesthetic one.

Re: Question of the Month with Ted Brewer

Sandingo is a nice looking thing isn't she ?

I like what I see of Brewer's design, certainly when we were thinking to buy a Brewer (near sister to JRD's ride) I received great assistance from both Ted and a certain Robert Perry that was much appreciated. I'm not trying to piss in anyone's pocket but it is pretty admirable that these guys are so willing to share their thoughts.

Re: Question of the Month with Ted Brewer

I just posted the latest in my "Question of the Month with Ted Brewer" series. In this post, Ted shares 50 Years of Cruising Sailboat Evolution and gives his perspective on the inspiration and history of cruising boat designs leading up to what we see on the market today. Enjoy!

Your contributions are always welcome, Bob! Your article about canoe-stern designs remains one of the most popular posts on my website. Feel free to PM or email me if you've got a topic or two you'd like to write about.

For those who haven't read it yet, check it out here: Double Enders According to Perry.

The Brewer Troubador 42 looks like a great boat too...very high sea comfort rating with decent turn of speed.

Would be great to hear from even more of these well-known designers...Wish I knew someone who knew Charlie Morgan well enough to get him to do something like this...a question of the month...etc.

Re: Question of the Month with Ted Brewer

Just posted the 3rd response from Ted in this series about his favorite personal designs. This time Ted shares the very interesting story of the Goderich/Huromic 35, including details about radius bilge designs for metal boats and the epic circumnavigations that have taken place on the Goderich 35. Here's the post: Question of the Month with Designer Ted Brewer (#3: Goderich/Huromic 35)

Re: Question of the Month with Ted Brewer

Very nice kwalt! It's interesting to hear Ted talk about how the designs evolved from his original drawings. I can see a lot of similarities in our Three Seas 40 hull to the Cape North 43.
