Re: Just bought ODay 28, a couple of questions

My wife of 9 years just bought 'us' an O28 as an anniversary gift. Its been on the hard for the past year. Wood needs some love and she needs a buffing (the boat, not the wife), but it is huge compared to the Cape Dory 25 we have been sailing. I look forward to learning, as you are.

Great boats. My Father owns one and he loves it. Good luck with it.

Re: Just bought ODay 28, a couple of questions

Interesting discussion. I am looking at an O28 that comes complete with autohelm BUT it also has a nice dodger. Seeing this reminds me to check on how that will all work together in a single-hand situation which I anticipate will happen from time to time...

I just got a tacker from ATN Inc. I hope to solo fly my spinnaker!

Re: Just bought ODay 28, a couple of questions

On my Oday 30 the headsail sheets do not rub on the safety line. They are slightly above. Not sure what sort of headsail my boat has...someone asked one time and I told them it was triangular. ha... guess I need to read about this.

The traveler for the main sheet is just in front of the companionway. I have become experienced with holding the wheel and trimming the mainsheet. An autopilot would really be nice.

I like Denise's idea with the cam lock.

Ahhhh, you know what, that's exactly what it is. They would be perfect then :/

I was quite happy to find that the wheel has a sturdy lock than I can flip on while I run round adjusting sheets!

You will get very good at running around the wheel-pedestal to trim and tack, and running back. You may want to think about wearing football pads as thighs will get bruised... but lots of fun!!
My traveler is just infront of the companionway
