Regarding the question about the sink depth in a PSC 37 - the sink depth (at least in the 1989 model) is 10 inches.

I saw that a few weeks ago. I think it would be simpler to just get a new 8" sink.

I was on a 40' and roughly measured the sinks as 8" deep, are the sinks on the 37 ten inches deep? Are the new boats the same?

Re: Galley sinks in Crealock 37

Since the subject of macerator pump noise has come up, I'll offer a few tips we learned with our galley sink macerator. Originally our pump was mounted horizontally, and when it pumped the hose from the sink empty the noise that came up through the sink was like a car horn blasting. We re-mounted it vertically with the inlet down so that the hose from the sink formed a "J" trap shape. The reduction in noise caused by the little bit of water remaining in the bottom of the hose is significant. Also, allowing a bit of extra hose length in the "J" section of hose creates a sump effect, that reduces how often you need to use the pump. Our pump outlet hose is routed up to deck level inside the galley cabinets, then back down to it's own thru-hull just above the waterline. I have been thinking of adding a vented-loop to the hose, but have not done it yet.

Re: Galley sinks in Crealock 37

Our sinks started backing up about the same time we put bottompaint over the waterline stripe.

We also installed a macerator on the galley sink drain which worked well for a while but then started having trouble pushing drain water against the backpressure of the seawater. The initial workaround was to tee the outlet into the deck drain at the water line which worked fine but as someone else noted the noise of the pump is very noticable.

I then tried a long length of outlet hose in a loop up near the diesel deck fill and back down to the sink drain through-hull. This fixed the backpressure and the noise problems and has been working for a few years now.

Friends of ours with a macerator pump in their sink drain were wrongly accused of pumping out their holding tank in a marina by an employee who heard the pump running and assumed the worst.

Thanks, everybody. Some great input here.

Some just install a manual diaphragm bilge pump, and pump it out thru an above water thru hull, just below the deck line.

Re: Galley sinks in Crealock 37

Instead of a full blown macerator, would there be some sort of check valve that could be installed in the drain line?
