sailingdog I would also check the other motor mounts, and replace any that look a bit questionable. It is likely that the other ones may also be close to needing replacement, so you might as well do it while you're at it... and save yourself the trouble of re-aligning the motor several times later on.

Goodnewsboy You may already know this, but Yanmar often uses different mounts in fore and aft positions on the engine. It isn't always crystal clear in the shop manual. Be sure you get the right one.

pigslo Replacing the mounts is easy and straight forward. Re-aligning the engine is the hard part. You need to be within three thousands on a solid coupling and ten on a flexible coupling. It is virtualy impossible to just mark the threads and replace as even a qurater of a turn will effect the allignment. It took me several hours of tedious work to do mine after a rebuid but that was from scratch. If you are careful you can realign it in about an hour if you move the adjustments on the mounts minimally.

Faster This is a job you could probably tackle yourself, especially if you can find an identical replacement mount.

Note the position of the mount itself (they are adjustable on the engine bed) and the height of the nuts clamping the flange from the engine. Prop/wedge the engine somehow, undo and remove the offending mount. Slip the new one in place, set the adjustments as you found them and snug things up.

If access is really difficult, or the arrangement is such that you cannot insert the new one without seriously affecting the original position of the engine then you may need to get an alignment check after the job is done. This too can be done yourself, and you will likely find good directions in any of the oft-recommended books found elsewhere on this site. (Dan Spurr's and others)

Of course the easiest way to do this is to pay someone else!

Motor mount replacement?

While preparing an Irwin 35 with Yanmar 3gm30 for the winter found a least one motor mount needing replacement. I have the service manual for this engine, but proper replacement procedures for this are not included in the manual. Can anyone give me a little insight. I want to decide fairly quickly whether I shoud do this myself or go to the local shop? Thanks
