Converting Enders Alcohol stove to Propane

I dont like the idea of burning Alcohol on the boat - especially when the burners on the Enders stove on my boat has seen better times.

Im looking to replace the Alcohol burners with two of these, each going to their own mini propane bottle.
I'll remove the stands/frame sections, and figure a way to mount the burners in the stainless Enders frame. I also think of mounting the two propane bottles attached to the frame (below), to form overall part of the gimballed installation.

Any thoughts about this? Silly Idea? Safety issue?

I will also mount a propane sniffer/alarm below the stove.

I will use this very seldom, as my sailing is mostly daysailing. When not using, I will store gas bottles outside.

Also, if any one have a better idea, please go ahead - I would love to hear from you.

If you use it "very seldom" why spend the considerable money and time to put in a propane system?
Just upgrade to an Origo (NON pressure) stove. We have been using one since 1994 and love it. Safe, easy to use, and it cooks and bakes anything we want or need.

Aside: I might one of the few lurkers here that has actually sailed on a First 26. That's a rare boat in the US.
I had a wonderful evening sail in about 15 kts of breeze and it sailed very very well - nice cruising interior too!

Hi Denise

The issue is not really the cost (although these things are only $16 ea). My issue is that I don't have what I consider a safe storage or mounting area for a regular propane tank. Storage space is limited to a single compartment in the cockpit that unfortunately would allow any leaking gas to drain into the boat.

I'll check out the Origo. My only experience with alcohol is the Enders on my boat (also a non pressurized system), and as I said - its a little scary when you fill it up, light it off, and the flame is all over the stove.....

I'll second the idea of an Origo. I have an Origo 4000 (2 burners, no oven) that couldn't be simpler, nor more apparently safe. You fill the fuel canister's outside of the stove (in cockpit, for instance), and a quick pass over the top with a paper towel will remove any fuel you spilled before bringing it back to the galley. Alcohol flames can be put out with just water, if ever a pro0blem, but I don't see just how that could be a likely prospect given the structure of the stove. It takes 6-9 minutes to boil water for coffee, will run "from 4-10 hours" on one 1.2 liter fill (they don't give any idea of what effects that time range, but it must depend on how open you keep the burner), and the fuel is easily acquired, easy to store in quart or gallon jugs.
