Fleet 58

Cool. Maybe after the deal is finalized I'll see you down there some time. Look for s/v Half Fast. I'll be the one at the helm with the grin on his face!!

My normal area is up at Guntersville. If you're ever up that way, look me up. I'll be there at least until spring. I'm not sure what I'll do then. I may leave it there and I may trailer it, I'm not sure yet.

Lake Lanier

That is were Fleet 58 is located.

canoeman256 Thanks for all the good info. I appreciate it. Sorry it took so long for me to acknowledge your replies, I've been on travel. The boat I'm buying is a fin keel version. I'm looking forward to sailing it. As far as local fleets, I think the closest one is down on Lake Lanier.

SunnySideUp Fantastic boat, really nice to work on. Pretty easy to get part and add-on's for it. Try www.CatalinaDirect.com for part and upgrades, and www.CatalinaOwners.com for more info. Also the Catalina 22 National Sailing Association(www.catalina22.org) is a good place for info. You should see if there is a local Fleet in your area (Fleet 58 of region 3 is my location). The people are real nice and and like to talk boats, also they like to race if you are into that. Good luck with her.

SailinJay Hope you have a fixed-keel version. I own a 1976 C-22 with the swing keel and sailed it for five years before moving up to a larger boat. My brother-in-law has been using the C-22 for the past three years and really enjoys it. I think it's a good boat, but I got tired of dealing with swing-keel maintenance/repair issues.

sailingdog Good solid little boat...Only main problem is a lack of head room below...so the pop-top is an excellent option for taller people.

A Terrific Boat

The Catalina 22 is the all-time champ "1st real boat". There are more Catalina 22's than any other production sailboat, and with good reason. My favorite version of the 22 is the fixed keel pop-top. An active owner's association and a manufacturer that supports you with advice and parts are added bonuses. Another big plus: the boat holds its value. Once the boat passes it's 15th birthday (about), it won't lose anymore value. You should be able to get what you paid for her if you ever sell. Congratulations.

Jotun I also have heard nothing but good things about the 22.

Cruisingdad Canoe,

The 22 is a mainstay for Catalina and a very good boat. You will be pleased.

PS Yes, you should probably put this in the Boat Buying Forum.

Catalina 22 purchase

I'm not sure if this is the correct place for this post, but I am in the process of buying a "new" 1989 Catalina 22. Anybody got an opinion of the boat that they're willing to share. I've been real pleased with it's performance during several pre-purchase trips on the boat. It'll be my first "real" sailboat. I currently sail a Wesco Marine 14 footer.
