It was just a recent thread in this forum that talked about english expression in use today and how they originated from sailing. It also touched on the history for example the allotments of rum.

sailingdog I don't know which article you're specifically speaking of...since there have been several that fit that vague description. A good source to read is the book "Mariners Miscellany".

Looking for thread

I read a very interesting article which described some of the terms in modern day and how they originated from sailing ie down the hatch, son of a gun, and I wanted to forward it to some friends, but of course now I cant find it. If anyone can link me to its location that would be great.
