Re: shroud tension

Google Image Result for http://www.tqci.net/~jkriz/Dimensions.jpg

If the mast is single spreader set, provide 3/4" forward mast pre-bow by slightly overtightening the forward lowers and undetightening the aft lowers AFTER initial tension of 15% each. If double spreadered, then 1" forward prebow total - via forward and aft lower adjustment, then prelimarily set all others to 15%, etc. etc. etc. etc. .

Once you get to the 'basic' rig tune..., and If sailing in much more or much less than 15kts ... (above is for normal sailing in 15kts.) then adjust backstay tension as per: http://www.ftp.tognews.com/GoogleFil...f%20Hollow.pdf

For basic mast tuning, once you set up for 15% go to: www.riggingandsails.com/pdf/selden-tuning.pdf .... choose single spreader mast head or double spreader mast head ... and do the fine tuning from there. Seldén's methods are very similar to and are applicable to a Kenyon mast.

FORESTAY tension is THE most important - so the headsail takes on it proper set/shape.
Every day is different so the backstay (forestay, actually) tension is different 'every day'.

Re: shroud tension

Theoretically, standing rigging is supposed to be tensioned to a specific percentage of its breaking strength - obviously this makes it different for every size & type of rigging - wire, rod, galvanized, stainless etc.

IIRC, S/S 1 X 19 is supposed to be 15% of its breaking strength.

Personally, I spent a few bucks for a Loos gauge - that makes it easy to ensure the same base tension on all the stays & shrouds.
