Hello again,

I am looking at visiting Seattle to get a feel for boats for sale in the area and docks that allow live-aboard's it is as much a vacation as it is a scouting trip. If any one here has recommendations on boats, marinas and hotels in the area as well as a sites I should make a priority to see I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you

That is a loaded question........way the heck tooooo many things to see and do depending upon your wish's frankly. Yeah, you can get a ride on the carr as mentioned for $30, or blue bomber from the same place. The blue one is an old 12m training boat from what I understand.

There is not a single marina per say in the area. try maybe 25-50 with in 20-30 miles of downtown seattle or more. Especially if you look at the public vs the private vs club owned. I think there is three in portage bay alone, two are private from Queen city and seattle YC's......plus moorage for the UW fisheries/oceanic dept's. Plus house boats, including the one from a movie that the name is escaping me right now.

I'm thinking there are 15 or so marinas just on lk washington alone now that I am thinking some.............not too hard to find live aboard marina's frankly. Oh yeah, puget sound has over 300 YCs to choose from!

The safe is a great place to watch a b-ball game.......

there are plenty of places to visit along the waterfront under the viaduc, you might drive along it, as it will not be their for long......g.reat view of elliot bay. Still not sick of the view after driving along it an unknown amount of times........

Enjoy your time here!

Marty

ps, it rains here a lot, so visit, but you might not like the 30-34" of rain per year we get! which is 10-20" less than the area east of the mississippi gets from May1 to oct 1.........

Watch the flying fish at pike place market, An ice cold beer at Lowell's, stroll around Ballard and Fremont stopping in the Red Door for a Red Hook, look at boats out at Shilshole marina, A mariners game in the afternoon. Check out the Ballard Locks and see boats going down into the Sound. Museum of Flight is pretty awesome as well. Jimi Hendrix music experience good way to pass a rainy day...

Yea I expected there to be lots to do, I had no idea there were so may marinas. hopefully that will make finding a boat easier the town I live in is maybe 50k people and if you refuse to work in the oil field and are not an alcoholic there are not many options on activities. I grew up in Montana and want to move back up north but would like to expand my horizons with a larger city to live in. Sounds like a good thing I am planning on staying for a week..lol.
My requirements for a marina are to allow my dogs as they are my children. You would never tell someone they can not have their 2 legged children so I do not understand why my four legged ones are any different and be a cheap/reasonable price for a 50ish foot boat. I am allow about history and culture not much on art but love local/regional brews.

Figure at least $10 to maybe 15 a foot depending upon the marina. Many have a 50-100 fee for liveaboards where they are allowed! Some of the YC marina's are 1/3 the cost of the port marina's, but do come with a 2-3G per year membership fee! still cheaper at the end of the year than a port.........

I do not know of any marina's that do NOT allow dogs. Loose on the other hand.......on a leash is not a big deal. Edmonds where I am, allows live aboards. two either side of me, now gone for various and sundry reasons had dogs.

In the winter, you can ski n the AM, golf in the pm to evening. sail year around. Heck, if you want to drive to timberline, you can ski yr around!

Hi Mlanderson!

I would recommend you check out the Shilshole Bay marina (https://www.portseattle.org/Marinas/Shilshole-Bay-Marina/Pages/default.aspx), which is one of the largest live aboard communities anywhere around. I am a member of a club in this marina and sail out of it weekly. Also check out Elliott Bay marina (http://www.elliottbaymarina.net/).

I also live right in Seattle, so let me know if you want to know anything else about anything local. =)

Look into The Inn at the market. It's very handy to everything.

If you drive one hour north of Seattle you could stop by my beach shack and we could have a beer. But there is not much here except water, sand, trees and rocks. But they are my water, sand, trees and rocks so I like them.
