I understand why a boat would be designed this way, however to me designing a dinghy this way seems less then ideal, especially if you want to sail in any kind of wind.

To the OP's question -

The boat for sale is a Naples Sabot which is the popular children's training boat in Southern California. There are also active adult fleets in SoCal.

It is perhaps the best training boat for young children ever devised. About 1/2 of today's rockstars learned to sail on a Naples Sabot.

Children who learn to sail on a Naples Sabot develop a passion for sailing.
