Re: IB30 cutlass bearing removal

Not sure if this will work for you, but here's what I did, I made up a custom but cheap tool. This is mostly because I didn't want to fuss with removing the shaft - the space behind my engine is SMALL.

Re: IB30 cutlass bearing removal

I replaced mine last year on a 1981 B30, it is sleeved, cut it in two or three spots and it should come out real easy. Be careful the sleeve is very thin after you get through the rubber bearing. I used a threaded rod about 1/2 inch and washers to press the new bearing in. Good luck!

ISLANDER BAHAMA 30 sailboat specifications and details on

Most cutless bearings are sleeved, especially in a strut.

- remove shaft
- if press out method using threaded rod, washers, small section of pipe matching ID of bearing does not work (and it usually doesn't), then
- hack saw blade to score the sleeve of the bearing. Once a clean cut is made you peel it in on itself.
