So, it looks like they recovered the boaters body yesterday. Does anyone know where he was found? Very sad.

Re: Missing Boater near Gibson Island

Wow, it was a 37? He must have had full sails up, even though there was less than 5 knt of wind. We were motoring most of the day. I thought for sure it would have been a smaller boat. I don't know where that area near Gibson Island is either. Could not find it on a map.

Re: Missing Boater near Gibson Island, MD

Pretty thin reporting throughout the area...but did manage to find out from Coast Guard it was a 37. Reporting said Phoenix was from Chestertown....couldn't tell from reporting whether skipper is one missing, or one of his guests.....not aware of where "6 foot knoll" area off Gibson Island is.

Missing Boater near Gibson Island

I heard about the boater who went missing Monday off Gibson Island. We were sailing past there yesterday about noon, and an hour or so later, the storm kicked up. We got gusts up to about 40 knots. Luckily, we were able to pull in the jib and had no problems.

Not sure of the size of the vessel the boater was on, but its pretty sad. They searched last night for him until dark, and will continue the search today.

I feel we were really lucky, as we were an hour ahead of where the really bad weather hit.
