Re: Who uses the Coast Pilot?

I use it. It's the " official" cruising guide and it's free. I also use the local notice to mariners.
Which are the official updates to the coast pilot

You can sign up to receive email updates here: LNM List Server Registration

In waters affected by Sandy..the LNM will be a good source for changes.

Re: Who uses the Coast Pilot?

Ya'know.... I think I'm going to have to get one, if not for all the good information that everyone says is in it, but just to be more salty than the boat next to me.

Re: Who uses the Coast Pilot?

I think that we are so overloaded with information now that we forget( as someone said, unless we are taking a coast guard test) that one book has so much in it. It's great for planning.

Can you link to the Code of Federal Regulations rule on that, or cite another source? I like to keep my boat 100% in compliance but my understanding was that you must have "the rules" (a copy of colregs) on the boat, but I always understood that you did not need charts or a pilot aboard. Personally, I think that an anchor and charts should be required, but I've never seen, or heard of a regulation requiring that in the USA.

Re: Who uses the Coast Pilot?

For Canadian waters I use our equivalent, Sailing Directions. Some of the cruising guides has used SD wording verbatim.

I never use it, but judging by the response, I might want to start.
