Re: Yanmar 1 GM will not start

Had the same issue with my 1gm yanmar... Found it was the mixing elbow. To help that 1gm start, warm the engine with a small ceramic heater, it doesn't take long. If the compression is lower than you think it well help on startup. winter time i do this to save on that tiny little starter that yanmar thinks is made of platinum. good luck

Re: Yanmar 1 GM will not start

If you have good compression (around 20:1), and it seems to crank at a reasonable rate, and still won't "catch" at all, about the only thing left is the fuel system. Assuming that you have bled the fuel lines, I would check the injector first then the high pressure pump. If it seems to "almost start", as in it catches for a second or two but never really gets going, you might have some sort of a restriction in the exhaust (but I doubt it).

I have read about squirting some spray WD40 in the intake while cranking. If it fires you are likely not getting fuel to the injectors. If your filters are not totally full an air leak is likely.
