UK to Monaco

Hi All,

I am just back from delivering a new Privateer 50 (Dutch Steel Trawler) from Southampton to Monaco. The trip was amazing; not least because we spotted Fin, Pilot and Sperm whales - along with thousands of common, striped and bottle nose dolphins... The boat and crew were also fabulous!

I had three crew, all commercially endorsed Yacht masters, to assist me. Four on board made for a comfortable watch system and we only stopped once in Gibraltar for fuel and some r & r. The weather, once we got south of Brittany, was perfect for cruising. At a around 7 kts (at 1600 rpm), we all enjoyed the 2000 mile passage. The straits provided a strong headwind and the usual wind over tide chop which she took in her stride. The Golfe de Lion also offered around 10 kts more than forecast which was directly on the beam. Despite the Seakeeper (gyro stabilisation) working overtime it was still a little wobbly!

On any delivery I usually become quite fond of the vessel, and the Privateer really is a beauty! Powered by two reliable John Deere motors, with gyro stabilisation, bow and stern thrusters, and the latest raymarine nav equipment she was a delight to drive. Fitted with underfloor heating and air con, a Bose stereo and cinema set-up, dishwasher and washing machine and of course a watermaker, she was also a joy to live onboard!

Here is a short video for those who are interested:

I was particularly pleased to capture the pod of sperm whale diving!
