Yay, on all of that. One word came to mind: BumFuzzles!, to be followed shortly by a partial list of the must haves. Oddly, my meds made the short list this time.

But maybe you're right. It has been done, and can be done on just wits alone. Thinking now more and more that it seems less worth doing if you have to plan, plot, and prepare years in advance.

Agreed. Mid-40's and grew up in the city. Never stepped foot on a boat until a sailing lesson 4 years ago. Got hooked, bought a Pearson 26 and never looked back. Still, we vacillate between abject terror, confusion, joy and rejuvenation but still the greatest thing we ever did.

So I'm sitting here reading this thread and all I can hear is Strother Martin dropping one of my favorite movie lines "Morons, I've got Morons on my team ". Thanks for the levity, I needed it since I spent the day cleaning out the sailboat getting her ready to store for the winter tomorrow.

Smack has provided a public service announcement!

I would add that maybe its not about intelligence - idiot, moron, imbecile - but maybe, just maybe, its about spirit/soul. You gotta feel it! You can't think your way through this.

Just to be clear, I don't mean this is a religious way, unless your higher power, like mine, is 12-15 kts on a sunny day.

Ya think maybe they come here because they're into hang-gliding?

If there's no wind, ya can't sail, so ya either float in one spot, or motor along to where you're going.

I think I can categorically state that sailing is better than floating in one spot. If one likes to float in one spot instead of sail, one's a freakin' moron.

Actually, if you think about it, it's extremely kind-hearted. This thread is directly targeted at newbs...so that they'll know how to avoid being a freakin' moron.

It would be cruel not to give them some guidance. I couldn't live with myself.
