(Sorry. You left that one open and I couldn't resist! )

Re: Zinc,...where does it go?

I was hoping for a chemistry professor to enlighten me on valence. I understand what happens to the zinc but not the why.

magnesium has the more negative electropotential and is more suitable for areas where the electrolyte (soil or water) resistivity is higher.

Re: Zinc,...where does it go?

Since most boats stay in the same place virtually all the time, it falls to the bottom, under your keel. It builds up over time and you can harvest it, melt it down, and recast it in the proper shape. If you drape a big blue tarp under your boat, you can catch it and that makes collection much easier.

I'm working on a collection system for shoe and tire rubber. It's patent pending, but involves scraping the road or sidewalk (the pedestrian version) as you move.

Re: Zinc,...where does it go?

Discounting the pirate theory....the zinc ends up in the water.
My theory was, like in electrolytic plating, the zinc migrates to some other metal body and coats that with a thin film of zinc.

Looks like I owe some beer.

Re: Zinc,...where does it go?

Oh right seems that it's only zinc oxide fumes from welding that are toxic. Powder is ok.
