Re: Chartplotter repeater

What the GMI10 will do is repeat the position, course, speed, etc. data from the chartplotter. It won't display the actual chart though.

If you have not purchased the system yet....take a look at the Raymarine e series. Native wireless connectivity and control to a ipaid or android tablet.

This a link to most of Garmins maping software option. I have not used them all, just primarily the Mapsource program.{e4f5b800-b9c8-11de-73d6-000000000000}

Re: Chartplotter repeater

There are a couple ways to do it, depending on which garmin you have.

With the models above the 740 you can network them easy peasy. With the others you would have to connect them via NMEA 0183 or 2000. 2000 is much easier to wire IMO.

you can also transfer waypoints and routs via the SD Card reader as well.

Re: Chartplotter repeater

Regarding needing any waypoints twice, that should not be necessary. Depending on the model there are several options for transferring waypoints and routes from one Garmin unit to another. For older units Garmin has a Maosource program that will upload or download waypoints, lutes, etc to and from chart plotters or data cards and computers. You can do the same with newer units using their Homeport program. They also have iPhone iPad app which will wirelessly transfer waypoints and routes to comparable units.

Rather than get a repeater screen get a separate portable charter that will serve as a backup and just transfer the waypoints between units. It's much easier to creat waypoints on the computer and transfer to units that creating them on the units although it might be easier with the newer touch screen units.

Chartplotter repeater

I am rigging a Garmin GPS system in a new boat and I am wondering about repeater capabilities. Ideally, I would like to have a second screen at my forward helm station that shows the same info as the inside main screen. I am mostly interested in the chart, speed, and depth features. I see the GMI 10 can repeat instruments, but I don't see that it rebroadcasts charts. Currently, it seems I would have to install a second GPS in the forward helm. While that may be cost effective it means I have to enter all waypoints etc twice and also means I would have to have two antennas as I understand it. Any advice on this would be appreciated. Thanks.
