Re: Diesel Identification

I bet it's the original engine. If you're serious about the boat, have a mechanic go over the engine. I wouldn't buy a boat with a non-starting engine, but I might be willing to investigate. You'd think the dealer would do this so he knows what to tell prospective buyers. There are many circa 1980 Yanmars chugging along just fine out there. Mine is a 1981.

Re: Diesel Identification

Would this have been a standard engine for an 8.3 or 8.7 Columbia and is it a good reliable engine I'm looking at buying an 8.7 with this motor in it. Dealer says he can't get it to start.

Re: Diesel Identification

it's a Yanmar 2QM15 made until 1980, may parts are not available any longer like the exhaust manifold

Re: Diesel Identification

Yanmar 2QM15 is my guess.

Re: Diesel Identification

MD7A is a Volvo, not a Yanmar. The photo is small, but that doesn't look like a MD7A to me. The MD7A is normally green and has a huge flywheel that is pretty distinctive.

There should be a nameplate on the motor.

Re: Diesel Identification

I think you'll need a better/larger pic to get much help with that...

Diesel Identification

Can someone tell me if this is a Yanmar md7a or what it is. I'm told it is original to the boat which is a 1979 Columbia 28 foot.
Thanks
