Where can I find blueprint for Morgan 45 1966
I read somewhere about them and see price for full kit but now I don't know how to find them

As for the ratio I think you will need to back into the ratio based on the engine and propeller size. If you can look up the available ratios for that transmission that will give you a go by. Then you need the propeller size and pitch which should be stamped on the hub of the prop. Then I'd go to an online propeller calculator which I've seen several. You plug in the parameters as best as you can guess using different ratio's until the end result matches you propeller. This seems rather un scientific but it should work unless the available ratios are so close to each other you don't get significant differentiation to tell. If they have 1.5, 1.9. 2.5 something like that then you should be able decide. I need to change the ratio on Mysti and I've been playing with this for a year trying to figure out the best ratio based on the max propeller size I can use and there doesn't seem to be any hard fast rules that I can find.

The key factors are engine HP and max RPM, the propellers # of blades, size and pitch, and transmission ratio. I'd be surprised if any two of these boats were exactly the same. You should be in the area of 2:1.

Interesting posts on the serial number. Where would I look for the inside serial number? Also my paperwork matches the outside number, and I got the boat from the original owner (via the insurance company). Also, I had a Perkins Prima 50 with a Hurth Transmission. Through a stroke of bad luck, my transmission has disappeared from my mechanic's shop. So to replace it, they asked what the gear ratio was? I have no idea as there was no owners manual. Anybody have a clue?

An interesting note on the HIN. On Mysti the HIN indicates it was built in 1976 but it wasn't completed and titled until 1982. So the titled year and build year is 6 years off. I've wondered how many of these boats S-J built and if the serial numbers are a clue I'm surprised to see a 00385 in the serial number in 1988. Mysti is 00010 from 1976 so that's about 30 boats a year which seems like a lot to me.

Does anyone know how many of these were made?

HIN convention changed in 1984.

889 means that it was built in 1988 as a 1989 model. Similar to buying a new 2016 car in the fall of 2015.

What is interesting about your HIN is that the position of the O is supposed to indicate the month in 1988 that it was built but 0 is not actually used to designate a month. Have you verified the HIN on the exterior and interior?

Well, the mast rebuild project continues. John Koon from Honolulu came over to Kauai to check out the mast and help get it off the boat. Larry from Island Crane brought his 20 ton crane down to the harbor at Nawiliwili to do the heavy lifting. After removing the lower portion of the bulkhead on the starboard side of the mast "closet", I was able to slowly remove four s/s hex head bolts holding the mast to the mast step. BTW, Johns's opinion was that this is completely unnecessary.

John went up in the chair to strap the upper sections together while I got the remaining side shrouds loosened. Once all was prepared, we hooked on the crane and began to lift. First time, the boat rose up with the mast. We lowered again, took a rubber mallet and gave a dozen sacks to to base of the mast and again began lifting with the crane. This time, after a few seconds of holding the strain, the mast popped free and was slowly hauled up and off the boat.

We then proceeded to take off as much hardware as was possible prior to shipping both sections to Johns's shop on Oahu for repair. Repair will basically consist of : removing about 12" of mast above and below the tear, 2-3" at the mast base due to corrosion, new spreader tips, new spreader base plates, and new mechanical eyes at the lower ends of all the stays (with the exception of the forestay, where the upper eye will be replaced) due to the aforementioned mast being shortened by approx. 15" total.

Johns's flexibleness is making it all possible. Everyone recognizes him is the best,most exacting rigger around. I feel that when the rig goes back up sometime after winter it'll be as strong as can be. Looking forward to JuJu and I continuing our travels throughout the South Pacific soon thereafter!

Got a call from RigRite today. They requested me to send them the outside dimensions of the mast section. Believe they may have something to help repair mine. Perhaps an internal sleeve? We'll see what response I get after I send info and photos.
