My family and I might be relocating to Davenport, IA. We own a Compac19 (hence my username!) and have traditionally sailed on inland lakes. The only obvious body of water near Davenport is the mightly Mississippi. Can anyone tell me if you've sailed the Mississippi in this area and if so, are the conditions decent? The few times we've seen the area I haven't seen any sailboats.

I appreciate any insight.

Ah....good ol' Davenpit........Above the lock is where a lot of boating goes on....powered tho.....for the most part......
I do take offense of the Quad City Times claiming it is the midwest's most exciting newspaper........
I limited my trips floating down the Mississippi at night while having a beer and cruising by the stadium........landing on Credit Island.......
Paint your boat Hawkeye black and gold/yellow you should be able to make friends....anyway good luck there....Always wanted to hit the river and take it all to the gulf.....There still is time.........Most lakes around there are sunfish size...yours would be the Yacht of the Land there.......

Compac 19:
Davenport IA might be considered the hub of a wheel of interesting trailer sailing destinations.

To the . . .
North: Mississippi River between Clinton and Savannah
East: Illinois River above Peoria
South: Mississippi in the vicinity of Ft. Madison
West: Coralville Reservoir - Iowa City, Red Rock Lake - Pella, Saylorville Lake - Ankeny
Southwest: Rathbun Lake

All within reasonable driving distance from Davenport
