Sailboats in Long Beach / San Pedro, CA

Does anyone have a suggestion for a good place to rent a sailboat in the Long Beach / San Pedro, CA area? (Or places to stay away from?) I have found several companies on the internet but most of the boats are larger than I want and more expensive. (I am looking for a daysailer in the 18' - 25' LOA range, keel or centerboard.)

If I can't find a rental, how can I find crewing opportunities? I am new to this area and don't have any contacts yet.

As a last alternative, I am thinking about a few lessons to help me get familiar with the marina, harbor, and sailors. Any suggestions for lessons?

Thanks, Richard

Captain,

Thanks for the response, I was actually looking for a proper place to rest and get a jump start on marine activities. So I don't plan to un-dock or actually sail, I usually stay in near hotels but they can get to loud on the weekends.

BTW. Is anyone here a member of ::Marina Venice Yacht Club:: a local yacht club? If anyone has any interest in joining feel free to send me a line!

-Ahoy!

I understand that LAYC in San Pedro offers cheap rentals and promotes sailing for local non-members as an agreement to their club property terms with the city of LA. (A common rumor we hear at neighboring CBYC down the street)

LBYC in Long Beach is always looking for non-member crew for beer cans and other events and even offers a race class on their Cat 37s to encourage people to join up. (My wife did the one day "sailing class" with some girlfriends only to see she was being recruited to race")

I would call the front offices of both and inquire. Olympic, Marina and OCC are all great mentions otherwise.
