Re: The New Guy

Thanks! I'm very much interested in sailing as well as diving. I just know enough to know that I don't know enough about sailing (say that 10 times fast). I've been scouring these forums trying to glean as much info as possible. I'm hoping to go visit my parents down in South Florida between February 14-18 so I can go to the Miami International Boat show. There are apparently a lot of free workshops as well as short trips out on various boats. I just barely missed the boat show here in Tampa at the beginning of this month. I want to discover which boat strikes my fancy and simply put, browsing pictures on the internet only gets me so far.
USF here in Tampa offers a sailing course that I am looking into taking. It's been a long time since I was a Swabby on a sailboat, bout time I try my hand at it again.

Re: The New Guy

I tried to send this from my phone earlier while I was at work, but apparently it didn't load properly so better late than never.

Welcome aboard.
The new guy is tasked with making the coffee run. I'll take a large double double.

The New Guy

Hello all,

My name is Ted. I've been lurking on the forums and gleaning as much knowledge as possible for a few weeks now and I finally decided to join.

I'm 29 years old, I live in the Tampa, FL area and I'm a student at the University of South Florida (USF). I grew up in South Florida near Ft. Lauderdale and spend a lot of time at the beach, snorkeling, and out on various types of boats.

When I was 14 I sailed to the Abacos with a friend and his parents and lived on their 35' sailboat (I believe it was a Hunter) for 6 weeks.

Since then I have been a landlubber and I miss being out on the water. A few months ago I spent some time out on Biscayne Bay with my father on his Kayak and it reminded me how much I have been missing out. Since then I have gotten my Advanced Open Water Scuba Cert and went on a dive trip in Key Largo.

Good old Poseidon has me hooked once again. Looking forward to talking to everyone and thanks for all the great info!
