Sorry Faster, chain plate it is. Thanks to you both for the prompt advice and response

I'd just take the old part into a local welding/machine shop and have them make you a new one. When I re-rigged my Ranger 23 earlier this year, a local shop duplicated the old chain plates for $175.

Re: ranger 23 standing rigging replacement parts

Chain plate or tang... remember? ... if you need a new one, you'll need it regardless of whether or not you go for a new jib furler. The furler will install over your existing (or a new) forestay that will need the forestay tang anyhow. These are not hard to fabricate, any machine shop or tinshop should be able to copy what you've got, and you could do the polishing yourself and save a few bucks. It will also give you the opportunity to add an extra padeye or attachment point, build in a bow roller for your anchor line, etc etc while you're at that stage.

There's a fair amount of convenience in a furler, but for plain sailing you'll be better off with two or three headsails to choose from, using the 'right' one at the right time is so much better than partially rolling up (reefing) a bigger sail.

Anyone know where I can pick up a replacement bow anchor plate for my forestay on a 23 Ranger? I've spent a few days looking but since my boats outta production, I think I'm going to need some expert help.

Side question: better to just install a new roller furling jib?

Thank you all in advance
