Re: Globe Blue Run Dry impellers

Thanks, everyone for the informed replies to my post. Maine Sail, special thanks for the pics - worth at least 1,000 words each. (Your knowledge and experience continues to astound me.)

Re: Globe Blue Run Dry impellers

I think we might have been misinterpreting the Globe impeller name--they sound more like Globe Run As If Dry Impellers

Re: Globe Blue Run Dry impellers

We've had reports of the rubber coming loose from the metal shaft. I don't even consider using them. We have an Oberdorfer 202M-15 on our M25.

Re: Globe Blue Run Dry impellers

I had a blue Globe in our Bukh at one time. It was put in at the beginning of one season, removed for the winter lay-up, and replaced at the start of the next season. It then failed to draw in water, and I replaced it with a basic rubber type impeller.

It had never been run dry, and I have never fitted one since.

Not impressed with performance.

I now have a VP2003 (different boat) with a Johnson pump and impeller - and no problems.

Re: Globe Blue Run Dry impellers

I pull my impeller every winter. This is at the end of a 7 month sailing season with about 120 hours of engine use. This impeller was NEVER run dry and never even had so much as even a slight restriction. She pumped a 5 gal bucket empty in under 45 seconds during winterizing with this impeller so flow was very, very good..

I will not comment other than to show the pics..

Ah... Not that I have observed.

Re: Globe Blue Run Dry impellers

Hello,

I tried one - it lasted less than a year in my M-21 with Oberdorfer pump, the vanes were cracked where they connected to the center. I usually get 2-3 years from the Oberdorfer models, so no more globe units for me.

Note that I don't really know how long the Oberdorfer models last because I usually just change it after 3 years.

Globe Blue Run Dry impellers

I'd like to hear comments from anyone who has used the Blue Run Dry impellers from Globe Composites. I have an older Sherwood raw water pump on a Universal M-15 that I recently replaced the rubber impeller on that and now I need to pick up a spare. These blue impellers are supposed to be able to run dry for up to 15 minutes. Do they work as well as/better than the rubber impellers? Do they really last longer? Thanks for any comments.
